American Association of Retired Persons (AARP)

American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is dedicated to improving the quality of life of all its over 39 million members by advocating for them and providing them with the right service and information. AARP prides itself as the largest nonpartisan and nonprofit organization for people aging 50 and above.

Area Agencies on Aging:

To make sure that every issue and concern affecting seniors and their caregivers are covered, the State of Pennsylvania has 53 Area Agencies on Aging. Each agency has specific services and an array of programs designed to help seniors get the information and assistance they require.

LIFE (Living Independence for the Elderly):

Living Independence for the Elderly, aptly called LIFE, is a managed care program designed to help seniors continue living independently while receiving the support and service that they need. LIFE, known nationally as Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), offers an all-inclusive and comprehensive package that suits the  personal and medical needs of the elderly in Pennsylvania.

Medicaid Requirements for Long-Term Care in PA:

The eligibility requirements for Medicaid can be confusing. If you wish to learn more about long term care programs and their requirements, you can use COMPASS, which is an online app for accessing and applying for various health programs in Pennsylvania. You can also get assistance from Pennsylvania Department of Human Services by calling their Helpline at 1-800-692-7462.

Mental Health and Developmental Services (MH/DS):

Services relating to mental health are administered through the county MH/DS program offices. Local provider agencies that are under contract with aforementioned county MH/DS offices deliver the actual mental health services.

Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman in PA:

Issues concerning the elderly who are long-term care consumers in Pennsylvania are handled and represented by the Office of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman. For any concerns, just call 717-783-7247.

Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Nursing Home Care:

If you wish to report a problem with a nursing home or find information about long-term care in nursing homes in Pennsylvania, check out the website of the Department of Health (DoH). They provide a complete list of regulated and skilled nursing facilities and other information.

Social Security Administration

For information about Social Security benefits, head to the website of Social Security Administration. They provide useful information about Medicare, Medicaid, and disability benefits, among others.

National Association for Home Care and Hospice:

The National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC) prides itself in being the largest and most established association of home care and hospice organizations in the country. The NAHC represents over 35,000 hospice and home care organizations and advances the welfare of each of these organizations’ two million nurses, therapists, and aides, as well as the 14 million patients that they serve and care for annually.
